Maximize your future options by earning a Lyle Engineering master’s degree.
- Earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in less time than completing the degrees separately.
- Start exploring this option in the spring of your sophomore year and apply before reaching 90 credit hours.
- Begin taking graduate-level coursework that will be applied to both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees (up to 9 hours).
- Network with your graduate-level classmates who have years of experience to share with you.

Graduate programs currently offered in Weekend Format include Manufacturing Leadership and Innovation, Engineering Management, and Systems Engineering.
Classes are held every other Friday, in the DFW area. Classes are completed in 5 sessions.
Cohorts start in the Fall, typically the first Friday in August.
Priority application deadline for Weekend Format is May 15; final deadline is August 1.

- Fully completed online application
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- English language proficiency test scores or waiver
- $75 application fee
Optional for master’s programs, but required for Ph.D. programs:
- Three letters of recommendation
- GRE scores (SMU School Code: 6660)
- Resume/CV
- Statement of purpose
Additional required forms and documents for international students:
- Obtain an I-20 form following offers of admission ÎçÒ¹AV Lyle
- Obtain U.S. F-1 or J-1 Visa, depending on student status
One of the following tests must be submitted and must meet the outlined minimum score:
- TOEFL (pre-2026): 80 out of 120
- TOEFL (2026 an onward): 4
- PTE: 55
- IELTS: 6.5
- Duolingo: 110
- Home-based tests are also eligible upon approval
English Language Proficiency Waivers
A student may waive English Language Proficiency Requirements if the student received a bachelor's or master's from an English Language Institution located in, or have citizenship from: United States, American Samoa, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Beliz, Canada (except Quebec), Dominica, Ghana, Grenada, Grand Cayman, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, Trinidad/Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdon, or U.S. Pacific Trust.
- Pre-Master Program (PMP), which is available to all international students. As a matriculation pathway program, PMP offers international students intensive Academic English courses, as well as courses from SMU Lyle. It accepts students based on existing admission standards. This program makes it possible for international students who do not currently have standardized test (e.g., TOEFL, GRE) scores to have the opportunity to demonstrate their academic abilities required to be successful at SMU Lyle.
- Assistance to international students in direct admission applications. GEI’s qualified and knowledgeable staff is experienced in assisting students who need additional information on SMU Lyle’s master’s degree programs.
- Processing GEI student’s tuition payment. Tuition payment processing through GEI is free of charge, so the tuition amount remains the same as listed on SMU Lyle’s website. This service provides great convenience for international students.
