Submissions to the Journal of Air Law and Commerce

To increase both the efficiency and effectiveness of our article review process, the Journal of Air Law and Commerce accepts electronic submissions through and email at .

Authors

The Journal of Air Law and Commerce welcomes article submissions from all authors including international authors, though submissions from judges and practitioners in aviation or space law are preferred. The journal publishes four times each year and typically accepts unsolicited submissions for the summer, fall, and winter issues.

Format

Times 12-point font is required for all submissions. Additionally, submissions must contain footnote, not endnote, citations that conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation or, when appropriate, The Greenbook: Texas Rules of Style.

What to Include

  1. A cover letter containing the author’s contact information and the title of the manuscript
  2. The Artificial Intelligence Disclosure Form, found here
  3. A resume or curriculum vitae for the author
  4. An abstract on a separate page
  5. A copy of the manuscript, which must include a Word version of the document.

JALC has no minimum or maximum page requirements for submissions, though brevity is valued. The average manuscript has no less than 150 footnotes. 

Artificial Intelligence Disclosure Policy

Effective for all submissions received after April 2026, the Journal of Air Law and Commerce will require authors to disclose any use of artificial intelligence tools in the preparation of their work.

Authors who use AI at any stage of their submission should include a brief statement describing that use. This statement may address:

  • The role AI played in conducting research, if any;
  • The role AI played in writing or editing the manuscript, if any; and
  • The specific AI tools or platforms that were employed.
However, regardless of what tools an author employs, ultimate responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the work rests entirely with the author. This includes the obligation to verify all cited sources. Unverifiable, fabricated, or AI-hallucinated citations undermine the scholarly value of a submission and will be treated as a serious deficiency under the Publication's attribution standards. Any submission containing sources that cannot be confirmed may be rejected from publication

 

Expedited Review

The journal will do its best to accommodate expedite requests during the academic year. Requests should be sent to jalceic@smu.edu with “Expedite Request” as the subject. In addition, please provide the title of any other publication currently making a publication offer along with the respective decision deadline. We are not able to perform expedited reviews during the summer.
